The College Center at Crozier-Williams, also known as Cro, is the heart of campus activity and social life. It is home to many student life services, clubs, snack shops, and flexible learning spaces. Harris Dining Hall, part of The Plex, is directly to the north of Cro and the main dining hall on campus. Between Cro and The Plex are a large flat open lawn used for volleyball games in the spring and summer, a tall hedge, pull-in parking, two one-way vehicular travel lanes, and a sloped lawn towards the Harris Dining hall entrance. Paths connecting Cro to the Plex are non-conforming and students often cut through parking lots when walking towards Harris rather than using the sidewalks and paths.
The project revisions these separate lawn areas as one continuous quad. Clear sightlines and pedestrian connections are reinforced by providing intuitive and clear paths and relocating stairs. The existing parking lots are relocated and consolidated within the new East Lot and renovated North Lot. The large hedge, pull-in parking, and vehicular travel lanes are removed, and instead, replaced with storm-water detention gardens, a continuation of the new Cro Boulevard, and additional path extensions to create ADA-conforming connections. The small plaza in front of Harris is expanded to allow for more inside and outside seating and flexibility during the warmer months. Small social pods are included along the Cro Boulevard extension to allow students moments to pause and gather.
