The West Newton Square and Streetscape site sits at the center of the Village, along a stretch of Washington Street that is both an important transit corridor and a vibrant arts community. The project provides a safe multi-modal transit design that includes bike lanes, enhanced bus experience and improved pedestrian safety and walking experience.

Where possible, ‘road diets’ increase the pedestrian spaces and allow for the creation of a series of small seating areas closest to some of the Village’s most important landmarks such as the West Newton Cinema, very popular independent movie theater.

The reimagined streetscape also provides nearly 50 new street trees as well as a revitalized and expanded plaza that serves as a place for the community to gather and support West Newton’s unique identity the defacto center for arts for the City of Newton.
