Projects / Cultural + Adaptive Reuse
Public realm projects present unique opportunities to create landscapes that are truly 'of the place.' A core KMDG tenet is that a site's history informs its future. Our cultural and adaptive reuse landscapes strengthen communities and celebrate local cultures while reconnecting with each site's past and broader social history.
Our process begins with deep research into a site's history, geomorphology, climate, and cultural context. This investigation provides the foundation from which design emerges, making historical conditions understandable to contemporary visitors. Whether recasting an industrial brownfield into a community asset, reimagining an underutilized marble quarry, or transforming a forgotten reservoir into an accessible modern park with historical relevance, our method grounds each project in its place and region.
